John Rumpler oversees policy and strategy development for Environment Washington and other groups. He has advised advocates on successful policy initiatives including California’s first-in-the-nation "polluter pay" law for drinking water contamination, and has served as senior advisor on numerous reports on water quality including Georgia PIRG’s "Budgeting For Clean Water: How Polluter Fees Can Increase Georgia's Water Quality Enforcement."

Before coming to work with Environment Washington and our allies, Mr. Rumpler practiced public interest and environmental law, representing community organizations in land use, zoning, and permitting matters. He won key victories for low-income citizens in Lowell, Ma., fought off high-powered law firms representing Big Tobacco, and helped public transit riders in Boston win consumer and environmental protections. He received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1996 and his bachelor’s degree from Tufts in 1988.
